Some common questions I get asked that you may find helpful
What is Counselling and Psychotherapy?
Counselling & Psychotherapy are umbrella terms that cover a range of talking therapies which are delivered by trained & qualified practitioners to provide individuals with support to understand, accept and overcome a range of emotional concerns or issues that cause distress.
The Therapeutic relationship is a professional working relationship where you will see your counsellor/therapist for a number of agreed sessions.
I work with people over 18 years old, over a short or long term to help bring about effective change and/or enhance wellbeing.
Always check your chosen counsellor/therapist credentials.
How can Counselling/Therapy help?
I will offer you a safe, non judgmental space, be respectful of you, your thoughts and opinions and listen to you. The sessions are for you and we will work at your pace. It is an opportunity to look at your concerns in a different way whilst being heard and acknowledged.
How will I know if Counselling/Therapy is for me?
It may involve talking about life events, feelings, relationships, patterns of behaviour, coping strategies. It may be that you want to learn more about yourself, overcome an enduring issue that is impacting you negatively or change something that isn’t working for you. There are many reasons to access therapy and it is likely that you are here because it is causing you personal pain. To help ease any worries you may have, i offer a free 15 minute phone call to see how comfortable you feel talking to me.
What is Creative Counselling?
Creative counselling is any form of creativity to aid within the therapeutic process, from doodling to using stones to using mood cards. It can provide a freedom from eye contact and alleviate any pressure you may feel to find exactly the right words. It can provide a platform to help with identifying and expressing difficult and painful emotions. There are many ways to work creatively online.
What is Nature Therapy?
It is an umbrella term, sometimes known as Eco-therapy, which is a range of formal therapeutic activities in the outdoors, such as walking and talking. It can provide an opportunity to explore your concerns out of the confines of a room; it can provide freedom from eye contact as we walk together and allows for more movement. It utilises the healing power of the natural world incorporating pathways, woodland areas, grass areas, a lake and public footpaths through fields.
What can I expect at my first appointment?
This is mainly spent getting to know you and for me to begin to understand what it is you are looking to achieve from our sessions.
I will also explain how I can work with you and will encourage you to ask any questions you may have. This is an opportunity for both of us to see if we would be a good fit to work together and clarify what I can and can’t offer.
Do you offer a free initial consultation?
Yes, I do. To allay any worries you may have, I offer a free 15-minute phone call/zoom to briefly discuss if we would be a good fit to work together and to see how comfortable you feel talking to me. There is no obligation to continue after this 15 minute phone call. Contact me here
If I am unable to answer your call, please leave a message with your contact details and I will return your call as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can email me, and we can schedule a 15-minute call. Direct Message is available through Instagram and Messenger through Facebook also.
What are your fees?
All sessions are £45, I do have some £30 sessions available for those on low incomes and welcome any enquiries around this. I review my fees annually.
Please note that any appointment missed or cancelled within 24 hours’ notice will be charged in full.
